TRIPLE THREAT ARTISTRY
Talk
Who are you and why should we listen? That's the subconscious question that every potential supporter has when they see and hear you. Presented by solo violinist, singer-songwriter, and actress Adrianna Mateo, "Triple Threat Artistry" is a case study that simply and elegantly takes apart how to cut through the noise: that is, how to compellingly communicate who you are, what you care about, where you come from, and where you're going, from the foundation (your lyrics) through the visual and sonic expression of your work. All level songwriters are welcome and are encouraged to submit questions in advance here.

CHASING A SONG: CONSTRUCTING YOUR PERSONAL WAVELENGTH
Workshop
Let's create a song, old school meets new school. Let's work from a vision or lyric phrase or sonic landscape. Something that resonates in you. Let's refine what wavelength you are trying to project. Let's sift through the myriad of available options. How tech is an advantage and a liability. Finding the balance, using tech as a partner not as a crutch. Does it drive your ideas through experimentation? Are you actively seeking the sound in your head? Lets refine our production path and goals. Let's discuss the art and challenges of hearing our own music. Let's talk about arrangements, the art of sequencing your ideas. and how the ease of creating on computers can create fools gold.
THE ART OF THE START: HONING INSPIRATION TO BEGIN YOUR SONG
Workshop
Composing a song from start to finish is easy! Sike. It's usually not easy at all. As artists, we are often inundated with doubts about our art to the point that even starting feels like a daunting task. These thoughts may be about whether or not what we want to write about is valid or interesting. Or maybe it’s been done before. Or maybe you think your idea is too “out there”. Or maybe people won’t like it. This workshop will help you start the process of letting go of those doubts and allow you to engage in play and pressure-free writing. We will explore our melodic and lyrical ideas and discuss where our inspiration comes from and how we can use it to catapult the songwriting process.

ALL-INCLUSIVE HIP-HOP SONGWRITING WITH KOALA SAMPLER
Workshop
This 2-hour workshop is dedicated to teaching participants of all ages and skill-levels how to create socially-conscious music from scratch, using the cross-platform app Koala Sampler. We will listen to hip-hop music that delves into issues related to the Blacks Lives Matter movement, using conversation and collaboration to explore ideas and create lyrical content. Next, participants will get an opportunity to sample and sequence sounds from their environment, such as items from around the house. These sounds will be arranged to make a hip-hop inspired beat for participants to record their lyrics onto, completing an original track by the end of the workshop.

People will also be able to (re-)create their own tracks on the ...Loops song creation platform.
WRITING VIOLIN PARTS WITH A FINGERCHART APPLICATION
Talk
My fingerchart application is intended to help violin students, composers, orchestrators, and songwriters with understanding the violin notes/fingerings. It can also help violin students learn music theory. I made the application with Max MSP and there are versions of it available for download for both Windows and Mac; you do not need Max MSP to operate it.
In my presentation I will explain how these applications work, and how they may be utilized by a composer/songwriter to aid their writing process. By understanding what feels idiomatic to the violin, musicians can write better orchestral parts in their music!
FROM LAB TO LIFE: HOW TO BRING YOUR MUSICAL IDEAS TO THE NEXT LEVEL
Talk
When I did Songwriter Lab back in June 2019, I was in the middle of working on a piece called Pharm Pharaoh Suite. I didn't finish it during Songwriter Lab, but the piece I previewed during the event went on to win a composition contest.
During the talk, I will walk through the thought process, how I got to achieve what I wanted to achieve musically, and the reality of applying to composition contests online.
